Once you’ve started your copywriting business…
And you’ve done a few projects…
Worked with a couple clients…
Gotten some experience under your belt…
You might be wondering…
Specifically, how can you grow your copywriting business?
How can you get more clients and projects?
How can you increase your income?
Preferably without overworking yourself until you crash… 😩
Of course, that is an option. I know of some copywriters — whose names you’d recognize — who have made their success sheerly through the long, hard grind.
6-to-7 days per week…
60-plus-hour work weeks…
Week-after-week, month-after-month, year-after-year…
And sure, you can do that.
If you simply work more than everybody else, you’ll probably accumulate more successes, too.
But here’s the thing…
I prefer working SMARTER,
When I walked out of my full-time J-O-B for the very last time — on February 11, 2010 — I didn’t do it so I could work MORE.
I did it for FREEDOM.
And for me, part of that freedom is being around for my family, for my kids.
Taking them to and from school.
Being there to help with homework, and to support them in their activities.
Taking fun trips and little getaways.
(Last week, for example, we booked a cabin at a nearby state park for a couple nights and just got the heck outta Dodge and spent time hiking and exploring and enjoying each other.)
Don’t get me wrong: I VALUE HARD WORK.
It’s just that if your only strategy is to work harder, you will quickly find your limit.
Working smarter has
Working smarter is about finding that one idea that has massive leverage.
It’s about finding that one thing you could be doing that would instantly get you the result you want, without a ton of wasted effort.
It’s about finding proven strategies that work, and then FOCUSING your hard work on implementing those strategies.
People who understand SMART WORK and LEVERAGE get the results efficiently, often achieving more in less time and effort than those who simply work hard.
People who work smart also work hard, it’s just that their hard work pays bigger dividends.
I’ve spent my entire career in copywriting prioritizing smart work over hard work.
This is how I’ve enjoyed
It’s why I haven’t had to work a normal full-time week since that day I left my full-time job…
And a huge part of how I ended up somewhere in or near the top 1% income earners in copywriting, starting very early in my copywriting career.
Not just because I knew how to write copy.
But because I dedicated myself to uncovering the secrets of growing your copywriting business…
The smart work ideas to get more clients and more income, faster.
Frankly, I probably could’ve made a lot more as a copywriter. If I worked myself from dawn to dusk, on top of working smart.
But that’s not been a priority of mine, so I’ve focused on, as Jay Abraham said it, getting everything I can out of all I’ve got. And within the limitations I set out to protect my personal priorities, I’ve done pretty darn well for myself as a copywriter.
The secret is in the right ideas
