No, not This Is Spinal Tap, “Turn it up to 11” loudness.

I’m talking volume, as in bulk, quantity, amount, number, etc. — in other words…

They run a LOT of ads!

This is critical to your successful Facebook advertising for two very important reasons…

— Reason #1: Testing…

This is NOT new or unique to Facebook.  It even existed before the internet (yes, there was a time).

In general, the more you test, the more likely you are to stumble onto a big winner.

It follows the 80/20 principle…

20% of your ads will be responsible for 80% of your results…

And it’s fractal…

Which means 20% of the 20% (aka 4% of the whole) will be responsible for 80% of the 80% (64% of the whole)…

Breaking that down…

If you write 25 different Facebook ads…

Just ONE of those is likely to create 64% of your TOTAL results!

And if you go another level deeper, 1 out of every 100 ads will be responsible for more than 50% of your success.

While the exact ratio and numbers may vary, the principle will hold.

If you write a ton of ads, you’ll find their performance conforms to “the vital few and the trivial many”…

And the more you test, the more likely you are to land on a total blockbuster.

So: testing more ads, faster, just makes it more likely you’ll hit that blockbuster sooner.

“Money favors speed,” right?

But even if that’s not enough to motivate you…

— Reason #2: Fatigue… 

The other reason to run a lot of ads is because of dopamine.  Yes, dopamine.

Dopamine is the brain chemical that drives us to chase unique and novel experiences.

It’s what makes us go back to the slot machines over and over again, hoping for the jackpot.

And it’s what keeps us infinitely scrolling down the Facebook newsfeed, wondering what’s just another swipe up away.

Dopamine is about pursuit — pursuit of the unique.

And dopamine is POWERFUL.

To understand, I want you to think about the Statue of Liberty, in New York Harbor.  

Now I want you to think about the Facebook newsfeed projected or printed on the Statue of Liberty — going all the way from the top of her torch to the tip of her toes.

Why this strange image?

Because that’s how far the average Facebook user scrolls the newsfeed…

Every. Single. Day.

All of that, pursuing NEW content and experiences, firing off all that dopamine in their brain.

Of course, Facebook wants to keep these users engaged and scrolling.  But how?

By offering a constantly new and unique experience, that keeps that dopamine pumping.

If someone sees the same ad over and over again, that dopamine dries up, and they’re less prone to keep scrolling.

Facebook knows this.

But more importantly, their algorithm knows this.

So it favors showing your ad to people who’ve never seen it before.

It also favors showing your ad to the best targeted prospects.

The more successful your ad is and the more you spend, the faster this group of best targeted prospects who’ve never seen this ad runs out.

And if they show the ad to the same people over and over again, the engagement will crater…

That’s called “ad fatigue”…

And those users will do what Facebook considers to be the absolute worst thing in the world…

They’ll close Facebook.

So in order for your campaigns to get the Facebook love, you have to be constantly feeding them with fresh and unique experiences — aka ads — for Facebook’s users.

Your challenge then is to constantly come up with FRESH ad ideas…

Which, let’s be honest — that’s a pain.

I mean, there you are, staring at that blank page…

Then you get an idea!

You write the ad, and…

You’re staring at another blank page…

Over, and over, and over again.

Makes it hard to feel inspired, right?

I get it.

I’ve been there.

And we all know what happens next…

We claim we’re going to check out Facebook “for inspiration…”

And we start at the tip of the torch, and start scrolling…

And you know where I’m going here…

Pretty soon we look up, hours have gone by, we’ve scrolled from torch to toes, and we’re frustrated that we haven’t gotten any writing done…

So we go back to staring at that blank page…

When suddenly, we have the idea that maybe we could find some inspiration if we just go back to check out a couple more ads on Facebook…

STOP! This doesn’t work…

While there’s fundamentally nothing wrong with doing a little research into others’ Facebook ads…

I’ve discovered a better way.

This eliminates those “blank page blues”…

Plus it helps you create TARGETED Facebook ads, fast…

And it helps you with creating a TON of ads that all feel like new and unique content…

WITHOUT you having to start with that blank page, over and over and over again.

What’s the secret?

The secret is to WRITE BACKWARDS.

SDRAWKCAB ETIRW?!!?!  

See what I did there — I wrote “WRITE BACKWARDS”…  Backwards!  And NO, this isn’t some crazy trick like that.  (That I’m sure would NOT actually help.)

Rather, you have to learn to look at Facebook ads backwards…

To work from the end to the beginning…

Instead of the beginning to the end.

And here’s a little hint…

Something you might find really useful to know…

Especially if you’re racking your brain trying to churn out huge volumes of unique ads…

My hint is…

Your whole ad DOES NOT need to be unique.

Only certain elements.

Even better…

Just the smallest, easiest-to-change elements.

Again, it’s 80/20.

20% — or less — of the elements in the ad contribute to 80% of the unique experience of the ad.

Which means that after you’ve created one ad, your next ad could be 1/5th the work of the first one…

Alternately: in the same amount of time you spent to create your first ad, you could easily create 5 more.

They’re exposing you to smaller audiences…

Getting you less attention…

Leading to less clicks and conversions…

And ultimately leading to far less sales than are possible and you are capable of.

But when you find that one ad, it’s like rocket fuel.

Because your one breakthrough ad could be capable of scaling to anywhere from double to 10X or more compared to your current ads.

Because, for whatever reason, it just resonates.

But the only way to find it is by testing as much volume as possible, as fast as possible.
